‘Knowledge is power, but only if we share it’

Mr. Jamie Bishop – Service Provider

Being the son of the original Partners means that I have been involved with Adisham House since its inception in 1983. Although I entered a different career as a chef, between 1986 and 1995, working in highly rated London and Southeast restaurants, I maintained an affiliation with Adisham House throughout this time.

In 1995 I returned to Adisham House on a full-time basis and worked alongside Mr. WM McGuinness and Mrs. Barbara McGuinness MBE to develop my knowledge and became Registered Manager of Adisham House in 2000. This led to undertaking a shared Service Provider role in 2005.

I have continued to manage and be service provider and partner to the present day. My focus has always been to work hard in providing a beautiful, homely setting, which goes above and beyond to meet the needs of those we support.

Being involved in all aspects of care throughout my tenure has given me an appreciation of all aspects of the service and I am proud to be the current longest serving member of the Adisham House ‘family’.

Mrs. Angela Bishop – Head of Care

Since originally training as a hairdresser, which I enjoyed for four years, I realised that I was not gaining genuine fulfilment and opted for a change to work in the care industry. I worked in different roles between 1998 and 2009, undertaking a variety of training and development, which allowed me to have a full understanding of the variety of roles and requirements for working in the care sector.

In 2009 I joined Adisham House, where I found my true calling and felt part of the family. I have continued to develop my knowledge and still maintain the same drive for high standards of support that I did when I first began my caring career.

I have been Head of Care for several years and this role enables me to ensure that the highest standards of support are provided to the people we support, while still maintaining the application of positive interaction and person-centred skills which fulfill my passion to improve the lives of others.

Lively and vivacious, I try to bring a smile to all those around me and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to live their best life!

Mr. William McGuinness – Senior Partner and Service Provider

Since qualifying as a Mental Health Nurse in 1956, my career took me to different locations and roles around the country, from Charge Nurse to eventually Director of Nursing Services in 1984.

I gained substantial knowledge and appreciation of acute physical and mental requirements and support strategies for both adults and children and am proud of the fact that I was heavily involved with the closure of some of the outdated large ‘institutions’, creating smaller, more person-centred units.

I became a consultant to Mrs. B McGuinness when she acquired Adisham House in 1983, while still undertaking my other roles. Having to retire from the Health Service in 1988 due to ill health, left me with a desire to still be involved in the sector.

I became shared Service Provider in 1990 and continues to follow events closely and be involved with the business as much as possible, despite my advancing years. I remain passionate about providing excellent care for those requiring assistance and am proud to have maintained the same management and ownership structure for over forty years.

Mrs. Barbara McGuinness MBE – Owner

I became a Staff Nurse at St Augustine’s Hospital in 1966 and one of my proudest moments came in 1970, when I received an MBE for bravery from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II aft er saving a patient from the roof of the hospital.
I was promoted to Ward Sister in 1972 and managed units which catered for those with mental health and behavioural needs. I maintained this position until 1983 when I acquired Adisham House and opened it as a residential service. I managed the establishment until retiring in 2014.

Despite retiring I continue to be involved in an advisory capacity with the current team and enjoy seeing all the changes which enable the highest standards to be met, while maintaining the family atmosphere of the service.
